The 2015 Oscar Nominations - One Movie-lover's Opinion

I love watching movies. And I like watching the award shows, but think they are only really worth watching if you have seen the nominated movies, so for the last few years I have made an effort to try and see at least all the Best Picture nominations prior to the Oscars.

Wadjda - Movie Review

It’s early to be making predictions about what movies might be nominated for Oscars next year, but I’d be very surprised if Wadjda did not appear in the Best Foreign Film category. The story, of a 10-year-old girl who is determined to own a bicycle and race against a neighborhood boy despite both activities being frowned upon within her society, is at once charming, educational and chilling.

Girl Rising - a powerful call to action

Yesterday I went to see ‘Girl Rising’, a movie about individual girls from nine developing countries who are determined to be educated against all odds. Produced by 10 x 10, a global action campaign for girls’ education which believes ‘Educate girls and you will change the world’, the movie is a call to action to those who live in countries where education is now taken for granted and many kids consider school to be something they are ‘forced’ into.
