They have done some amazing work on the west side - basically it used to be one disused pier after another. , now it's almost all recreational space. I had been to the Grand Canyon before (about 40 years ago!) so it didn't have quite the same impact seeing it this time, but even so, it is still amazing. It was my daughter's first visit and while she was impressed, I think seeing Canyonlands two days earlier took some of the awe of the Grand Canyon away for her because she thought Canyonlands was so beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. <br />It also raises interesting questions about the future of human memory when so many nowadays prefer to rely on looking things up in seconds from an external memory - I believe memory has to be used to keep it sharp but memorizing information seems to have gone out of fashion. Instead a written language, Native Americans memorized stories and used them as teaching and communication methods.
